Standards Based System (SBS)
Our Standards Based System (SBS) is the core curriculum framework for the Lake and Peninsula School District. SBS ensures consistent academic standards across all our village schools.
Curriculum Areas
- English Language Arts — Reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills
- Mathematics — Problem-solving and mathematical reasoning
- Science — Life science, physical science, and earth science
- Social Studies — History, geography, government, and economics
- Alaska Native Culture — Language, traditions, and cultural knowledge
- Physical Education — Health and wellness
- Art & Music — Creative expression and appreciation
Assessment
We use standards-based grading and assessment to measure student progress against clear learning targets. Students are assessed on their mastery of specific standards rather than earning traditional letter grades.
Graduation Requirements
Students must complete the following to graduate:
- English Language Arts (4 credits)
- Mathematics (4 credits)
- Science (3 credits)
- Social Studies (3 credits)
- Alaska Native Culture (1 credit)
- Physical Education (1 credit)
- Electives (8 credits)
